6 steps to perfect table decoration for wedding guests
Wedding flowers are an important element that requires careful attention when organizing your wedding. It is no easy task, especially if you lack experience in organizing such a large event. Fortunately, we are professionals in this field and are here to assist you every step of the way. Whether it's choosing the right floral arrangements for your ceremony, reception, or bouquet, we'll ensure that the flowers perfectly match your wedding theme and style.
We have been working in this wonderful profession for over ten years, and, like any good wedding planner, our greatest reward is the satisfaction of happy newlyweds. Wedding decorations include, among other things, decorations for guest tables. In fact, guest tables are one of the key elements in decorating the space for the ceremonial dinner. Below, we will share six important aspects to consider when decorating the guest tables, ensuring that the most important day of your life remains a beautiful memory for your guests.
1. How will the guests' table decorations look in the space?
The first step in decorating wedding tables is to choose the venue, as this will greatly influence the style and design of your table arrangements. The decoration will vary depending on whether you're hosting your wedding in a hall, tent, castle, villa, restaurant, or outdoors in settings like an olive grove, beach, or picturesque estate. It's important to match the floral decorations with the venue's interior and respect the space's characteristics. If you're unsure, it's always safe to go for white flowers and neutral shades, as they tend to blend well with almost any type of decor and setting.
2. Tall or low floral decorations?
When deciding whether to use tall or short floral arrangements for your guest tables, consider the shape, size, and seating arrangement of the table, as well as the number of guests. The way food will be served also plays a role in this decision—whether it's plated individually, served on trays, or presented buffet-style. The floral arrangement size and shape should complement the available space on the table once all the utensils, food, and drinks are set.
Tall centerpieces, such as tall candle holders or flowers, are perfect for larger weddings as they create a "wow" effect without overcrowding the table. These taller arrangements also allow guests to see and communicate with each other more easily. On the other hand, lower, more abundant floral arrangements require enough space to fill their role effectively and maintain elegance without obstructing the view.
3. What kind of tablecloth should I choose?
The wedding we recently decorated featured soft blue tablecloths that, combined with floral arrangements, added an elegant touch to the reception, as seen in the photo. The tablecloth creates a beautiful contrast, allowing the flowers to stand out, while the plates and entire table setting are elevated to a higher level, as befits a wedding. If you are not fond of the white, gray, or black tablecloths commonly offered by most wedding venues, we can provide beautiful pastel-colored tablecloths in light blue, olive green, dusty pink, or beige to suit your style.
4. Candles in table decoration, yes or no?
Absolutely! They look fantastic in glass candle holders. Our favorite choice is white, long-lasting candles that burn for 12 hours. They are safe and won't stain the tablecloth. Candles add elegance and warmth to the space, as well as an extra touch of festivity. If the wedding is on the beach, consider using torches alongside candles to define the space and guide guests.
5. Napkin decoration - the secret is in the details!
If you want your guests to feel special, pay attention to details such as napkins when organizing the wedding's décor. For example, you can decorate the napkins with a silk bow and an olive branch, and include a personalized thank-you message. It could sound like, "Dear Ana, thank you for being with us today." Alternatively, place a name card and a small welcome gift at each seat. You can also lay a specially designed menu on the napkin. Traditional napkin fans are out of style unless you're organizing a retro wedding.
6. Table number - another important detail
Table numbers are an essential part of wedding décor, and we pay special attention to their design. It's important for them to be personalized to reflect your style and align with the overall theme of your stationery—such as invitations, thank-you notes, guest lists, and the welcome sign.
